hummingbirds

The ruby throated hummingbirds are very active right now, emptying the two feeders in my garden every couple of days. Watching them dogfight through the air as they negotiate feeder space is a joy to watch. They seem to have such fun with their own aerobatics!

Here is a male….

These amazing tiny creatures are worth a couple minutes of your time, if you’d like to read about them here:

  1. Hi Sharon. These are incredible shots! I can imagine waiting for hours for one to sit still long enough to get a good pic.. the in flight one is awesome as well. It must be a real joy to watch them.

    • Hi Scott, thank you πŸ™‚ You’d think it would take a long time, but the little devils are so territorial about the feeder that I had to wait less than a minute before they came back. This feeder is right outside my kitchen window so I suppose they’re use to me peering at them. They chirp like tiny monkeys and sometimes buzz right up to my face. Fearless!

    • Thanks, Nigel πŸ™‚ They are a highlight of the backyard garden each year :-). So tiny and active and fun to watch, also most amazing in their stamina since they fly from central/south America to the US and then back……this morning there were five buzzing around the kitchen feeder which is a lot for this early in the summer. Hungry little beggars! πŸ™‚
