Which one is the bluestem? I’ve got to learn these names—especially when they’re as cool as “bluestem.”
Hi Paul, the bluestem is the taller, orangish grass. You can see a nice cluster of them in the left side of the shot. This is a small prairie patch right outside my building at work.
Yes, I love the name “bluestem” too! It evokes covered wagons and prairie dresses and long journeys west across the plains.
I sure am glad to live in the 21st century.
What’s the other tall one, intermixed with the bluestem? We have a lot of both of those by my favorite pond.
I should know that, but I don’t. 🙂
