Yep, it’s brutal. I shot this at 3:30 this afternoon, less than a mile from my house. Couldn’t go farther than a few feet from the CRV before my fingers and toes started to freeze, then hurt.
Lovely light and landscape for photographs, though.
Everyone complains, but I love this extreme weather!
What is the temp there for you? The coldest I ever experienced was 25 degrees in Wisconsin in November. I thought I was going to DIE. My friends, however, told me I was a lightweight…
Oh wow, our temp right now is -10 and the windchill is about -30. No wind though, so if you bundle up, itβs not so bad. Today I wore a down parka, fleece hat, wool socks and sheepskin boots. Cheap gloves though, so my fingers got cold! And my toes, too, after tromping around in the snow.
A few minutes out, then back in the car, rinse, repeat. π
Funny, I canβt stand extreme heat, but winter doesnβt bother me at all.
I’m glad you can enjoy our arctic winter through pictures, but I wish you and all the other UK photographers some snow and bright, clear days in which to shoot!
That’s arresting. One of the things I like about winter is you can go out most of the day with your camera and get low light angles. In the summer I feel like ten minutes after sunrise the day is over.
It’s difficult for me to imagine that landscape I’ve been in for the last two summers, being coated in snow and FREEZING.
This is lovely π
Hi, Merilee π
Thank you!

Death Valley would do me in!
I can take 125 degrees! I cannot imagine -30!!!
California girl through and through. π
Yep!
π
You captured the cold stillness of snow beautifully.
I love snow, and we’ve had nothing but wind and rain so far this winter π¦
Hi Mackenzie, thank you. π
I’m glad you can enjoy our arctic winter through pictures, but I wish you and all the other UK photographers some snow and bright, clear days in which to shoot!
Still plenty of time!

Arresting – I like that. Thanks, Paul. π
I completely agree. The low light angles are terrific in and of themselves, but add some snow and sun, and the camera practically works on its own.
Yes, summer days between 10 and 6 are a wash. At least the golden hours are nice and long, though.
Wonderful images Sharon , I love that you got yourself behind the tree so the sun is in just a wonderful place π
Long shadows on the fresh snow, your having a wonderful winter π π π
A very peaceful image and I love the title π π
Hi Nigel, and thank you!
The sun is so low this month that it wouldn’t wash out the shot, but I still prefer to shoot it gleaming out from behind a leaf, twig or tree.
I like the title, too. π π
I like the sun and the shadows on the snow, Annie
Thanks, Annie. π
I’m enjoying your Minnesota winter images very much!
*Dream-like*
Hello, thank you. π
